Valentine’s Day may have come and gone but that doesn’t mean at-home date nights are to be forgotten. An ideal time to show off in the kitchen, the only thing missing is the perfect wine.

Make it easier on yourself by deciding in advance – and perhaps Casa Ferreirinha’s Papa Figos will be your choice for the night.

Elegant and light, yet modern and complex with tasting notes of chocolate and cocoa – forget the boring box of chocolates – this wine is sure to set things off.

The wine is named after Dona Antónia, lovingly nicknamed Ferreirinha (little Ferreira), one of the most iconic historic personalities in Portugal known for her devotion and care for the community. Casa Ferreirinha is committed to sustainability following the principals of ‘Produção Integrada,’ an agricultural system regulating the use of natural resources.

The grapes were sourced from the Douro Superior sub-region from vineyards with northern exposure and at a higher altitude (1,250 feet). After being destemmed and lightly crushed, the grapes are gravity transferred into stainless steel vats, where the alcoholic fermentation process takes place. The wine then undergoes smooth maceration and malolactic fermentation, also in stainless steel tanks, prior to the final blending.

Part of the award-winning Evanton portfolio, which includes Silk & Spice and Sandeman Port, Papa Figos features grapes sourced from the Douro Superior sub-region from vineyards with northern exposure and at a higher altitude than most (1,250 feet).

The result is a wine with complex notes of black and red fruit combined with a resin balsamic aroma, cocoa and chocolate. A good body with round tannins, well-integrated acid.

ntegrated acidity lead into a long, quite elegant finish.
