Exciting Distillery Hampers this Christmas

Hospitality has taken a huge hit in 2020, with the majority of businesses scaling back their operations significantly.  Many are working hard to get their products and services into the hands of customers in creative ways; from takeaway pints delivered door to door, to online orders of prepared three course meals.

A big hit this Christmas will certainly be hampers and gift boxes.  For corporates especially, the chance to reward employees with a hamper from a local shop filled with local products is a readymade solution to the difficult question of how to effectively say thank you, while remaining socially distant.

For friends and families too, who may not be able to spend time together this December, a gift box ordered online can be very meaningful.

So it’s no surprise that producers big and small are getting in on the act with a wide variety of boxes available to suit all price points and tastes.  Some of the most alluring are hampers from Ireland’s distilleries and below we have collected four of the most exciting boxes from four of Ireland’s most innovative distillers.

Powerscourt Distillery
From €90

Powerscourt Distillery is one of Ireland’s newest distilleries, but its pedigree is world renowned.  Master Distiller Noel Sweeney is a globally respected whiskey expert.  He was inducted into The Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame in 2017 and currently remains as one of just two Irish distillers to have been recognised in this way.

This year, Powerscourt is releasing three well curated gift baskets.  The Fercullen Bronze, Silver and Gold Irish Whiskey and Food Pairing hampers include meats from the Wooded Pig, local honey from the Powerscourt Estate, Wicklow Ban Cheese, Fercullen Whiskey Chocolates, and, of course, a Fercullen Trilogy Pack. Each hamper comes with a QR code that gives the recipient a link to watch a pre-recorded presentation on how to enjoy the whiskey tasting and food pairing journey.

J.J. Corry
From €45

J.J. Corry is Ireland’s first modern Whiskey Bonder and has been releasing increasingly unique blends over the last 18 months.  Memorably, they released The Chosen in late 2019, one of the world’s most expensive commercially available whiskies that clocked in at €6,500.

Their Christmas hampers come in at a more approachable price however, and are available to purchase online as well as in Co. Clare at Fawl’s, Ennis and Vaughan’s, Cooraclare.

J.J. Corry has collaborated with female founded businesses in County Clare and beyond to create a range of gifts designed for creating J.J. Corry drinking moments at home. The gift boxes include a bottle from the J.J. Corry range and an array of local County Clare handmade goods.

Stillgarden Distillery
From €50

An independent and experimental distillery based in Dublin 8, Stillgarden is mixing its hampers in with its tasting experiences.

A highlight this year from the distillery is the Xmas Cake Gin.  Complete with festive spices of cinnamon, ginger and star anise and distilled using the traditional pot still method, this inventive gin still manages to capture the fresh and zesty flavours of Stillgarden’s botanicals of juniper and mixed peel.

The Distillers’ G&T Box includes the Stillgarden Distillers Edition Gin, two premium mixers and two tall glasses as well as a gift card for two for the Garden Tour.  The Stillgarden Experience Box, meanwhile, includes Stillgarden Social Gin, two tall glasses, two reusable straws, miniature Xmas Cake Gin, miniature Distillers’ Edition Gin, fragrant garnishes, two passes for the Cocktail Masterclass, and 2 Garden Tour gift cards.

Dingle Distillery
From €53

Dingle Distillery has a lot to answer for – they ushered in the Irish whiskey revival by opening the first new whiskey distillery in Ireland in over 200 years, back in 2012.  Since then they have achieved a number of firsts, and their incredible line of small batch single malts and pot stills are much sought after.

But it’s arguably their multi-award winning gin that they are best known for, and this is what their Christmas gift sets centre around.

The Perfect Pour Gift Pack comes with a 70cl bottle of Dingle gin, a carry box complete with a branded Dingle gin goblet and 2 x glass kilner jars containing dried juniper berries and orange peel to create the Dingle Perfect Serve.  The Botanical Gift Pack meanwhile is an exclusive collaboration with fellow family owned, independent Irish brand, Off the Cuffe Irish Bitters who have created an exclusive alcoholic bitter, inspired by the sunrises over Dingle.
