Dublin City Brewing Co’s Clubs Give a Taste of What’s to Come

Soon to begin operations, Dublin City Brewing Co. has been giving fans a taster of what’s to come with its monthly Tasting Clubs, where their beers are paired with snacks and treats and married to a monthly interactive webcast.

Despite the setbacks caused by the pandemic, Dublin City Brewing Co’s 11,000 square foot property, located in the Parnell Centre on Parnell Street, is ready to start producing beer. The facility has a capacity to produce 5m litres of beers per year.

It will also have a visitor centre providing guided tours, with a capacity of up to 200,000 people per annum, and a merchandise shop. Work commenced on the site in January 2018, with all design and project management handled by David Wright from Caulfield Wright Architects. The business is expected to employ about 50 people in due course.

The management team includes managing director Geoff Waddell of The Woolshed Bar and master brewer Fergal Murray, whose last role was master brewer and Global Brand Ambassador for Guinness.

The entire €15 million project has been independently funded thus far but there will be a crowdfunding campaign launched in the second quarter of the year for the final raise of capital.

Since the brand’s inception, Dublin City Brewing Co has committed to nurturing the Irish food and drink community. This was the inspiration for starting the Dublin City Brewing Tasting Club, a monthly online event taking place on the last Thursday at 7.30pm.

Each night sees head brewer Fergal Murray host a tasting of three of their beers and a special guest food or drink producer joins him. The guest will talk with Fergal about how they would pair and enjoy a Dublin City Brewing Co beer with one of their culinary creations. All three events thus far of the year have sold out and have been very well received.

For the May edition, Fergal will be joined by managing director of Sheridans Cheesemongers, Kevin Sheridan. It is now over 25 years since brothers Seamus and Kevin established their first cheese stall in Galway. They now have an extremely successful business with stores all round the country and are widely regarded as Ireland’s finest cheese sellers. Kevin will be selecting three different cheeses to pair with the three Dublin City Brewing beers, including the brand new Stout. Partaking guests will be emailed the selection of cheeses a week before to allow them to pick them up in any of the stores or online from the Sheridans Cheesemongers website.

Head brewer Fergal Murray said: “Like so many Irish people, I have been a great fan and loyal customer of Sheridans Cheesemongers for years now. I am truly humbled that Kevin will be joining us for the Dublin City Brewing Tasting Club as he is an icon of the Irish food sector and a champion of our native produce. I can’t wait to see what cheeses he pairs with our beers, especially the latest member of the family, our brand new Irish Stout. It carries a lot of dark sweetness and mellow spices which I hope would compliment some of his favourite cheeses.”

Tickets are available now for the May club and can be bought here.
